ABOUT US:
Sports for Sustainable Development Foundation is a registered charity in the United Kingdom, using sports (football) as a platform to promote, the development, and well-being of children and young disadvantaged people, and as a civic entry point to actively engage young people in their community activities, through leadership acquisition, aimed at addressing socio-economic inequalities, and promoting the relevance of the Sustainable Development Goals and the role of young people and their communities achieving these goals.

SDGs: Sustainable Development Goals relevant to our project objectives: Goal 1: Eradicate Extreme Poverty, Goal 2: Quality Education, Goal 3: Promote Equality and Empower Women, Goal 5: Improve Mental Health, Goal 7: Ensure Environmental Sustainability, and Goal 8: Develop Global Partnership.

WHATS WE DO:
At the Sports for Sustainable Development Foundation, we believe that sport is one of the most powerful tools on earth for driving positive social change. We use football as a dynamic platform to engage local communities, break down systemic barriers, and promote the holistic development and well-being of disadvantaged children and young people, including those living with disabilities, and using social prescribing to support mental well-being.

In an African context, social prescribing is defined as a holistic, community-led healthcare approach that connects individuals to non-clinical support, vocational systems, and cultural networks to address the social determinants of health.

Operating through trusted community figures, such as sports coaches and mentors, this decentralised framework utilises existing community assets (like football fields) to provide a "livelihood as healthcare" intervention, linking psychological recovery directly to nutritional stability and economic survival.

For us, sport is more than a game, it is an entry point to improve material well-being, advance social equity, foster deep community cohesion, and nurture resilient youth leadership.
