The Sierra Leone Diaspora Development Foundation (SLDDF) acknowledges enormous skills vested in Sierra Leonean Diaspora. We at the SLDDF accept the responsibility to effectively develop and harness available natural and human resources for sustainable development.
With determination, solidarity and unity, irrespective of our social and political differences, we claim the inalienable right of all people to control their own destiny. We are inspired by a common determination to promote development, peace, understanding and cooperation among our people at home and in the Diaspora in response to the yearning for improved quality of life for all including our future generation.
We aim to support the Sierra Leone diaspora community in the United Kingdom and other Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) organisations, and individuals to achieve specific desirable development related outcome. We also support various grassroots community development projects in Sierra Leone, such as child education, business entrepreneurship and social enterprise, environmental degradation, food security and various other capacity building community development initiatives.
One of our main focus is gender equality, with child education at the centre of attention with particular focus to girl’s child education. Presently we are working with the Firestone Community School in Freetown and rural communities schools in Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom, Port Loko District Sierra Leone.
Our idea towards sustainable development is social enterprise for community development. SLDDF believes mainstreaming sustainable development backed up by Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) should be the new approach towards sustainable development. Sustainable economic development in Sierra Leone will depend on job creation, education, poverty alleviation and careful environmental management
